The Eternal Bond that Yachting Provides
May 1, 2009 – 3:46 pmToo often these days people are so caught up in the serious side of life and seem too busy to take the time out to teach their children some valuable lessons. Thankfully, my grandfather was not one of these people. Every time we were out on his yacht together, he took the time, no matter how busy he was, to teach me how to work certain parts, how to steer the wheel or even how to make the whole boat come around. The feeling that a child gets when they are taught something new is invaluable. It was never so much about the fact that I learnt how to put up the sails, but it was more about the one on one time that I got with someone that I consistently looked up to and cherished.
Giving children that quality time can be more important than most people realize. As I learnt how to spin the wheel to catch the wind just right, I understood the passion that my grandfather felt and appreciated him and loved him more than ever. Whether he was teaching me how to read coordinates or just putting me on his lap, these are the special moments that I will forever treasure for the rest of time. When I am upset, disappointed or just feeling down, I can look back on these memories. The memory of taking a bath on the deck when I was small enough to fit in a plastic bowl, or running to the front of the yacht will forever have a place in my heart. These are the memories that are created from yachting and from quality time spent with family. There are very few other hobbies or activities that can create this emotional bond, connection and recollections.

There really is no shortage when it comes to your options and possibly the best part is, you can fish for a few different species all in one day from the same boat. 
It is a lifestyle that many people strive for, but not many truly get the chance to live. Yachting is an activity that you truly have to experience in order to understand. And there are not many that try it that do not fall in love. I am one of the many enthusiasts even though I do not own a yacht and do not get the opportunity as much as I would like. I would take the opportunity at the drop of a hat to get on a boat, anytime, anyplace and anywhere.
