Fishing yachts have varied their designs quite dramatically over the years. The first type of fishing yachts were really trawlers and were large heavy barge type boats. These would just throw out a very large net, then would drive for a certain length of time and bring the net in to see what fish they have caught. This practice still goes on all over the world with thousands of these boats doing this every single day to make a living. More recently people associate fishing yachts with the ability to go sport fishing and catching large fish. This type of boat would be a lot smaller than the original trawlers and would also be a lot lighter too. It will be equipped with a far more powerful engine that means it will be able to get to its destination lot quicker.

The new type of fishing yachts can be found in most marinas and can be chartered for a daily fee. This can be a great way to spend the day and you may be surprised at just how big the fish are that you can catch. Depending on where you are in the world the majority of the sport fishing yachts will go after shark, marlin and tuna. These are the strongest fighting fish in the world and if you’re lucky enough to get one on, then you’ll be strapped to a chair and will have the fight of your life! Even if your partner doesn’t like fishing too much they were still have a great time as it is a very calming experience sitting on the open sea.

The larger type of fishing yachts are decreasing in their numbers every year. This is mainly due to a lot of restrictions on fishing and the numbers of types of fish you can catch. This is obviously done to preserve the numbers of fish and the environment, as at one stage many of these fishing boats caught far more fish than they needed and a lot were wasted. The problem is that with many of these fishermen it is all they have ever done and is the only way they know to make their living.
