Exploring the world of yachts

Yachts have been around for many decades. The most common type of yacht today is the pleasure yacht. People just like to buy their own yacht and then moor it in a harbor so that they can use it whenever they wish. It is becoming more and more popular for rich businessmen and celebrities to have their own yacht and is really becoming a status symbol in Florida and in the South of France. The larger the type of yacht not only does it cost more initially but will also cost a lot more to maintain. Large yachts generally have their own captain and crew’s which man the boat all year round. So as you can imagine you really do need to have a lot of money to have your own large mega yacht.

Amazingly the majority of these mega yachts very rarely go out to sea. They are purchased more for status than they are to be used frequently. They are equipped with every type of technological gadget that you could imagine and are really more like a floating home and just a boat.

The majority of sailing yachts tend to be the catamaran type, which have two hulls and what looks like a large space between them. These make for greater stability and can actually get up to quite a fast speed when sailing. That’s why this is the choice of yacht for many sailing races all over the world. They are very durable type of vessel and can contend with even the roughest seas. The majority of high-profile races and explorations have all been on catamarans.

If you’re thinking of owning your own yacht then you should look into it in great detail. They do take quite a bit of maintenance and will cost quite a bit of money even if it is just moored in the harbor. Yes, depending on where you are in the world the price just to leave your boat standing in a harbor can indeed be quite a lot of money. There is often a large waiting lists for some of the more popular harbors such as Monaco. So you should always look at all the fees involved before making a decision.
